I always believe that leadership is within oneself. It is the
matter of time and types of exposure or learning to awaken the
leader within. Speaking of which, leadership and management
course offered by IFMA-FMS has structurally designed in a way
to wake the leader in me. In one sentence “It provides relevant
leadership skills of a successful manager from Planning to
organizing, administering and delivery”. The course
covers beyond and not only the scope of facilities, but it
shown some lights for me to apply the skills of a leader for
both my personnel and work
life.
Dr Gan, in my opinion, is a man whom teaching techniques makes
me think out of the box. Many a time, ppl always make blunt
mistake due to hasty decisions without much thinking or
consideration on the consequences. After hearing from him, to
be a success leader, these are no compromise. Not to mentioned
there are less activities this time around, yet it is still an
essential course, a must attend for all facility manager so
that the leadership within oneself can be
awaken.

I found that Dr
Gan's workshop was very insightful. His delivery was
structured and clearly presented. The content he offered
was forward looking and relevant.
The classes
presented by FMS provide the added value of hands-on
learning / games / local
content.
Unique to Dr Gan's
class - amongst the 3 I've attended: is his regular call
for student opinion on what we think with respect to a
each. This affirms the importance of our own
participation and stimulates us to think and reflect
thereby internalising the rationales he expounds, rather
than simply take notes or commit to
memory.

Steven’s presentations are well
planned and delivered. Steven’s enthusiasm for developing the
field of facility management in Singapore contributes to a
dynamic and interesting seminar. He actively engages
individuals throughout the seminar enabling an open exchange of
experiences and information amongst
participants.

In deed the course does create an important insight on the
critical of Planning and Project
Management.
The course has gave me the insight of the significant of Work
Breakdown Structure (WBS), to make sure the important items are
all covered and to identify the key member’s responsibilities
is clearly spelled out. I will definitely sign up for the
rest of the modules to earn or giving myself a chance to become
a FMP or even the CFM certifications.
As for the facilitator, I believe each facilitators would have
their own methods to carry out the message. Having say that,
Mr. Steven style of presentation is acceptable for me. At
least, I’ve been paying attention for the whole 2 days
duration. His eye contacts was pressuring me and as if is
making sure that I deeply understand the
topics J
(a compliments). both listener and presenter sensitivity is
important in order to making sure that the message is well
delivered and accepted by both. Saying of which, Mr.
Steven has successfully carry it out, at least for
me.
Overall, I would rate this course
as a must attend for all the facilities
managers.

Through years of academic contacts via various practitional, I
find him different from others
-
Ablilty
to kick-start the 2 way
communication
-
Abundance method of
presentation – eg, pasting paper on
wall….
With the above, I
will always be glad to be another candidate to attend
workshop / “lecture” shared by him.

I could see Steven has put in a lot of
effort to drive the whole book of info and his personal
wealth of experience with great illustrations in the short
2-day course.
Time, cost, quality
process, people, place, technology, and SS satisfaction
determine success/ failure of PM. Other important topics such
as building contract and standards and PM codes for tender,
construction PM, space planning, relocation planning, aligning
FM mission with coporate mission & strategies etc. has been
delivered sucessfully. This course ascertain the relevance of
FM in Planning and Project Management.
I believe Steven
will do better as he handles more participants in future. I
would recommend my team leaders (even MA) to attend the course
to help foster a stronger network of FM professionals and help
position them to tackle new problems with collective knowledge,
wearing the management's hat.
